From January to March, the total amount of major chemicals was approximately 109 million tons, an increase of 9.2% over the same period of last year. The growth rate decreased by 1.2% compared with the same period of last year and decreased by 4.2% from January to February.
Crude oil production declined and natural gas kept growing. From January to March, the national crude oil output was 50.704 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 1.5%. The output of natural gas was 33.02 billion cubic meters, a year-on-year increase of 7.6%, accounting for 37.0% of the oil and gas equivalent, which was an increase of 4.5 percentage points over the same period of last year. In the first three months, the country's crude oil processing volume was 115 million tons, an increase of 3.1% year-on-year, and the increase rate was significantly lower than the same period of last year; refined oil production (gas, coal and diesel, the same below) was 69.15 million tons, an increase of 5.5%.
Fertilizers and pesticides grow faster. From January to March, the country's chemical fertilizer production (refine, the same below) was 17.339 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 17.5%, and the growth rate was 11.5 percentage points higher than the same period of last year. Among them, the output of urea was 7.212 million tons, an increase of 10.6%; the output of phosphate fertilizer was 4.454 million tons, an increase of 30.1%; the output of potash fertilizer was 733,000 tons, an increase of 7.2%. In the first three months, the output of synthetic ammonia was 13.166 million tons, an increase of 8.1% year-on-year; the output of pesticides (100%) was 838,000 tons, an increase of 20.3%, of which 371,000 tons were herbicides, an increase of 41.1%.
As ethylene declined, most other key products slowed down. In the first three months, the nation’s ethylene production was 3.924 million tons, which was a year-on-year decrease of 0.9%, the first drop in three years; methanol production was 6.284 million tons, an increase of 17.5%; calcium carbide production was 4.715 million tons, an increase of 13.5%; chemical reagents were 2.232 million tons, an increase of 19.9 %.
